Memento

Salam.

I read ‘How Starbucks Saved My Life’, and I think that this is a lesson that I need, at this very moment.

I can relate this in so many ways especially my take on life. Not to blame anyone in my upbringing, but the situations and environment I have lived in had mould me to think and act in certain ways, and that certain ways were not something that I am proud of now.

I used to think that job somehow defines a person, but upon finishing this book, boy, how naive I was. A job is a job, a mean to survive life, but a work is a work, and work is dignity, like the writer of this book had mentioned. From high level advertising executive in a established company to a Barista at Starbucks, he too had this misconception in life, as he was born with silver spoon, being brought up in a 35 room-mansion, with education was easily accessible for him and all the privileges that came to him from families' connection.

He became arrogant in life, looking at empty symbol as momento of success, treat people he don’t endorsed as he liked, but forgot that he too is subjected to life’s penance. When the table is turned, that was really an eye opener for him. He sees thing as a person, no longer as a man with money, no more clouded by skewed judgement he had before.

I hope that I, we,  will not face that kind of incident to come to our senses. I believe that after we were strayed too long from the right path, God will send some storm to clear the way, to help us clear the way because we missed one or two small signs that He had deliberately shown before.

So, job is just a job, but work is dignity
